Paul Mortfield
I've been involved in Astronomy for over 25 years showing countless people of all ages the night sky through my telescopes.
I'm currently involved in Education and Public Outreach at the Stanford SOLAR Center which is part of Stanford University's Solar Oscillations Investigation (SOI). The SOI Team is the principle investigators using the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) on board the SOHO Spacecraft that studies the Sun. Check the SOI page for some of our exciting discoveries or the Stanford page on Solar Physics.
I also report on Astronomical events in the night sky as part of the news on KPIX-TV in San Francisco (CBS Affiliate) as the Backyard Astronomer with live views of space through my telescope.
In my spare time I drive my telescopes up to cold mountain tops and PHOTOGRAPH objects in deep space. Many of these images have appeared in books, magazines and TV. Check out these images of Comet Hale-Bopp. When I'm not traveling the world to photograph Eclipses of the Sun, I can usually be found playing Ice Hockey.
